Martijn Buisman

With a degree in American Studies at the University of Amsterdam under his belt, Martijn started an English-language blog site about beer back in 2009 in his spare time. At first he wrote under the name Dutch Beer Pages but chose to change the name to Hop Culture Reference in 2019. On social media these days, you can find him under the name Dutch Beer Explorer. In 2020, he wrote a first article for Tasty Tales about the beer history of Amsterdam.

After a stint at Oproer Brouwerij in Utrecht, he now gives tours at Brouwerij Oudaen, a brewery in the vaults of a 'city castle' in the historic center of Utrecht. In addition he also organizes historical beer tours through Utrecht and Amsterdam under the name Buisman Beer Tours.

As of 2022, Martijn proudly holds the title of Doemens International Beer Sommelier after completing the final part of the training (level 3) in Austria.
